Ensembles Tokyo is a participation-based music festival in which anyone can take part. Under the direction of musician Yoshihide Otomo, everyone who participates will seek to create with their own hands a new music space that transcends their individual positions and styles. The music festival shares the appeal of Tokyo with the world starting from Gyoko Street on the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station, Tokyo’s “front door” and a place where all sorts of people from around the world come together.
Workshops will be held in advance and then on the day of the event we will hold a participatory live performance with Yoshihide Otomo, Shugo Tokumaru, Yasuhiro Yoshigaki and Orquesta Nudge! Nudge!, Shinji Ishii and Ikuko Harada, and Fred Frith. Members of the general public will also work with Project FUKUSHIMA! to prepare the venue with an installation of giant furoshiki cloth.
